How To Plan The Perfect Scary Movie Night

I always say that family time is the best time!

So, last month my family and I decided to get together for our traditional scary movie night, which is always fun. Well, if you’re into thrillers of course. I mean, the weather was perfect, everyone was in good spirits, and the environment brought back a lot of childhood memories. It wasn’t too long before I knew I’d gained inspiration for my next blog post.

What was different about this scary movie night was that instead of the movies being selected by one person, we were all allowed to bring our own. But, after the movie I selected turned out to be a total disappointment, I don’t know if I will be allowed to bring a movie to the next gathering, (L.O.L.). By the way, the name of the movie I selected was Lake Fear (2014), purchased at Walmart. Let’s just say that I’m happy my movie was first and that we had others to choose from!

Learning from scary movie night do’s and don’ts, I’ve put together a list of tips on how to plan the perfect scary movie night! Who says we have to wait until Halloween? (* insert scary laugh *)

How To Plan The Perfect Scary Movie Night

1. Choosing Your Movie

The type of scary movie you choose should be solely based on preference. For Lake Fear (2014), I purchased the movie based on the synopsis alone, huge mistake. Although the name and case illustration is what initially drew me in, I did neglect to read reviews on the movie, which is how I ended up with a movie I didn’t like. So, I highly recommend that you check the movie’s reviews before you make your purchase!

2. Popcorn & Candy

What’s a scary movie night without popcorn and candy?

There’s nothing like the smell of buttery popcorn and the taste of sweet treats while enjoying a good movie (the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites are my favorite). We even had the cutest popcorn maker and reusable plastic popcorn containers (available at Dollar Tree). While on my search for a scary movie, I also picked up several boxes of the movie theater style candies at Walmart for just $0.98.

3. Lights Out

Turning out the lights for scary movie night creates the perfect movie theater ambience. After all, who looks at scary movies with the lights on?

4. Drinks

It’s pretty much a given that scary movie night is an adult event, which is why I thought it would be an awesome idea to provide your guests with a drink or two. You can choose to create these drinks based on a scary movie theme or stick to a simple glass of wine. The choice is yours!

I will say that my family and I got through about three movies before calling it a night. As usual, I had the best time and I can’t wait for the next round. Hopefully, they will allow me to redeem myself!
