First and foremost, Happy Fall!
If you’ve read my previous posts on ‘How To Plan The Perfect Scary Movie Night’ and ‘5 Ingredients For The Perfect Christmas Movie Night In’, then you know that I’m all for a cozy and festive evening at home. I’m sure a lot of you are coming off of a summer full of fun outdoor activities such as vacations, poolside Sundays, cookouts, trips to the beach, and more. So, I figured now would be the perfect time to help you settle into the last of the year by giving you a few suggestions on creating the perfect fall evening routine, especially now that the temperatures are finally dropping!
Make your home fall festive.
It’s mid-October, so I assume that by now your home should be decorated for the fall season. If not, girl what are you doing? Making your home fall festive is a great way to get into the swing of the new season. I decorated my home just days before the first day of fall and it has created a certain level of comfort and peace in my home. You can’t have the perfect fall evening routine without creating the perfect fall setting.
Light a fall-scented candle.
One of the first things I like to do when I come home from work to set the mood for a relaxing evening is light a candle. If you’re as crazy about candles as I am, then you may have your collection categorized by seasons. Surprisingly, I don’t have a favorite fall scent. The candle I decide to light really just depends on my mood. When I’m cleaning, I tend to grab something that will smell slightly stronger throughout my apartment. However, since we’re looking to relax, I would opt for a much softer scent.
Take an exfoliating and detoxifying shower.
Nothing helps me to relax more than a shower after work. I like to call it, “washing the day off.” If you don’t mind spending a few extra minutes in the shower, make it extra special by giving yourself a full-body exfoliation. One product that I would recommend is the “Nourishing Pink Himalayan Salt & Sugar Body Scrub” by Desert Essence. Exfoliating not only gets rid of dead skin cells, but it allows for moisturizers to penetrate more deeply into the skin, which makes them more effective. Let’s not forget, it also helps you sleep so much better.
Change into comfy PJ’s and fuzzy socks.
It’s almost a given that you can’t have a relaxing and peaceful evening in without dressing the part. Since the start of the season, I can’t recall how many warm drinks and fuzzy socks-related posts I’ve seen on social media. For us girls, comfy PJ’s and fuzzy socks is a very serious thing!
Treat your skin with a facial mask.
Of course, you can apply the facial mask of your choice. However, I typically go for a honey mask or occasionally, a Morrocan clay mask. I’ve been using the honey mask method for many years and I haven’t found anything else that I’d rather use. You can simply pick up pure honey from any local grocery store. You will wash your face like normal and leave it damp so that the honey glides on smoothly. Then, massage the honey into your skin, covering your entire face. Leave on for about 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Please note, I have found that the honey mask works better after you’ve gently exfoliated your face.
Fix a delicious meal.
By now, both you and your house should be looking and smelling amazing. Now, it’s time for dinner. I would suggest fixing something delicious and filling, but light because we still need to save room for dessert. If you have time or are in the mood to try a quick recipe, you should be able to find a simple stir-fry on Pinterest.
Watch a movie.
What is an evening routine without a good movie? Since it’s October and Halloween is just around the corner, I thought ‘Hocus Pocus’ would be perfect. Plus, it’s a family-friendly film. Released in 1993, ‘Hocus Pocus’ tells the story of teenager Max Dennison exploring an abandoned house with his sister Dani and their new friend, Allison. After dismissing a story Allison tells as superstitious, Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, who used to live in the house. Now, with the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal.
Bake some sweets.
If you haven’t guessed it by now, I’m definitely a sweets girl and when the Fall time hits, my sweet tooth goes into overdrive. This season provides so much inspiration for baking. How delicious does this classic apple pie and ice cream look from Live Well Bake Often? If you’re not one for recipes, then you can simply pick up the pre-cut frozen cookies inspired by Halloween or Fall at your local grocery store. But if you are, happy baking!
